Paraguay Import Regs.: Temporary Entry

Postby bridgat » Tue Nov 18, 2008 6:36 am

Decree 4672 of January 6, 2005 in Articles 223 through 245 establishes the framework for the "temporary admission" regime by the Customs Code issued July 15, 2004. Below are examples for this regime:

* Paraguay has a temporary entry system which allows admission of capital goods such as machinery, tools, equipment and vehicles to carry out public and private construction work.

* The government also allows temporary entry of equipment for scientific research, exhibitions, training or testing, competitive sports, and travelers or tourists items.

* Merchandise introduced in the country under the temporary entry system may be nationalized in Paraguay by paying the requisite duties.

The following documents are required for temporary entry and can be processed prior to arrival by local customs broker:

- letter stating reason for temporary entry
- detailed list of equipment, including purchase price
- local insurance policy covering cost of duties waived
