Intellectual Property Rights.

QATAR TOOK A NUMBER OF STEPS IN 2000 TO PROTECT
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. THE MINISTRY OF
FINANCE, ECONOMY AND COMMERCE AMENDED THE COPYRIGHT
LAW NO. 25 OF 1995 TO BRING IT IN LINE WITH THE
TRIPS AGREEMENT AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS.
THE COPYRIGHT OFFICE OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE
INTENSIFIED ITS ENFORCEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
LAWS BY PROSECUTING RESELLERS OF UNLICENSED VIDEO
AND SOFTWARE.

THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH
REQUIRES REGISTRATION OF ALL PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS
IMPORTED INTO THE COUNTRY AND WILL NOT REGISTER
UNAUTHORIZED PRODUCTS PROTECTED UNDER A VALID
INTERNATIONAL PATENT. IN 2000, THE

MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH ESTABLISHED A
JOINT COMMITTEE TO AGGRESSIVELY COMBAT THE
IMPORTATION AND SALE OF PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS THAT
VIOLATE PATENT LAWS.
