Peru Import Regs.: Temporary Entry

Postby bridgat » Tue Nov 18, 2008 6:58 am

Peru does not honor the ATA carnet. A bond covering the tariffs and taxes normally due on importation is usually posted and canceled when the goods leave the country. A customs broker is usually employed to handle the procedure with customs.

Peru maintains a duty drawback system. Moreover, under the temporary admission procedure, it is possible to obtain relief from the payment of import duties and taxes on goods intended for export after processing in Peru. Temporary importation, which offers the same advantages as temporary admission, applies to certain goods intended to be exported in the same state, except for "normal wear and tear". The period during which the goods may remain in Peru before being exported may not exceed 18 months in the case of imports covered by temporary importation or 24 months in the case of those covered by temporary admission.
