Paraguay Import Regs.: Labeling/Marking

Postby bridgat » Tue Nov 18, 2008 6:33 am

The GOP has adopted a number of Mercosur labeling requirements. In September 2005, the GOP adopted Mercosur nutritional labeling requirement for packaged food. In June 2007, the GOP issued Mercosur technical regulations for labeling textile products.

Paraguayan regulations require that the country of origin be designated on domestic and imported products. However, it should be noted that Paraguay, as a member of the Mercosur, is gradually adopting the Mercosur label regulations, particularly for food, cosmetics, plastics, etc.

Specific labeling requirements (including expiration dates) apply to products such as malt beer (Decree No. 18.567 of 1 October 1997), grape and wine growing products (Decree No. 18.953 of 5 November 1997), fertilizers and related products (Law No. 123 of 9 January 1992), textile products and footwear (Decree No. 18.568 of 1 October 1997and Resolution 464 of August 21, 2006 that regulates Decree #18.568), medicines (Law No. 1.119 of 21 July 1997), insecticides and fungicides (Decree No. 10.189 of 22 December 1941 – Agricultural Defence Regulation), and pesticides and related products.
