Postby bridgat » Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:20 pm

Federal Tax: Goods and Service Tax (GST) of 6% is levied on all taxable imports.

The Provinicial Sales Tax (PST) is generally payable on imports which are not for re-sale.

The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is an agreement between the federal government and the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland to combine the PST and the GST so that there will be a flat rate of 14%. Revenue Canada Customs & Excise will collect the 14% on all taxable imports of goods for use in these three provinces. The HST is collected on imported goods that exceed personal exemptions
