Spain Documentation: Certificates of Origin

Postby bridgat » Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:40 am

Three copies of a certificate of origin are required for all shipments to Spain. Certificates of origin are certified by the following organization:

Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Miguel Sebastia
Executive Director
350 Fifth Avenue, Room 3514
New York, NY 10118

Tel: (212) 967-2170 x23
Fax: (212) 564-1415
E-mail: info@spainuscc.org

Certificates of Origin for shipments of textiles and apparel

Certificates of origin (COOs) are always requested for textile and apparel products and sometimes for technology products, including those of U.S. origin. While origin is normally certified by local chambers of commerce in the United States, for Spain the certification of the U.S.-Spain Chamber may fulfill the requirement.

COOs can be requested when the customs inspector suspects irregularity of origin of the products.

Other occasions for the requirement of the COO:

--when the imported product is subject to an import quota

--when the origin of the product is a country which benefits from reduced customs tariffs

--when and import authorization (autorizacion administrativa de importacion) has to accompany the product.
