U.S. companies doing business in Malaysia should either designate a Malaysian based trading company as their local sales agent or establish a branch office or subsidiary, for which there is a registration process in Malaysia.

U. S. firms desiring a permanent presence in Mayalysia should register with the Companies Commission of Malaysia, and work with the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) to ensure that they are in compliance with the appropriate Malaysian regulations.

Sales to the Malaysian Government require a local agent and/or a joint venture partner. Additionally, direct U.S. company involvement along with a demonstrating a long term committment are essential for contracts of significant size.

A wide range of media are available for advertising and promotion, including telvision, radio, newspaper, outdoor advertisements, and the internet. Sales of equipment and industry specific materials depend heavily on specialized trade fairs, business publications, and visits by company representatives.
