Uruguay Membership in Free Trade Agreements

Postby bridgat » Tue Nov 18, 2008 7:19 am

* Uruguay is a member of:

- The World Trade Organization (WTO)
- The Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) - Uruguay is involved in several bilateral agreements with other ALADI members
- The Southern Common Market (Mercosur) composed of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, which has Chile and Bolivia as Associate Members.
- Separate trade arrangements for certain products with Brazil and Argentina (called PEC and CAUCE, respectively) that are periodically renewed.

Uruguay recently signed a TIFA with the United States, which may be a prelude to further trade liberalization efforts between the two countries.
