Subject: Regulations for Importation of Used/Refurbished Equipment

A. There are no restrictions on the importation of used U.S.-made equipment in Israel, except for motor vehicles.
B. With the exception of motor vehicles, all imports of used equipment are treated the same as new.
C. There is a ban on imports for commercial purposes of used motor vehicles. Personal imports of used automobiles is allowed for licensed models only.
D. The market for used imported equipment in Israel is limited. This reality is mainly attributable to the fact that benefits under the law for the encouragement of capital investment in Israel are given to new equipment only. Accelerated depreciation schemes also favor the use of new equipment over used. Relatively high shipping costs, lack of adequate after-sales- service, and, where legally applicable, relatively high testing/inspection costs also adversely affect this market.

Please Note:
This is an example of market research and trade leads produced by the U.S.Government and disseminated through the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). The NTDB is a one-stop source for extensive market research and trade leads compiled from U.S.Government agencies as well as U.S. embassies and consulates overseas The NTDB is available for purchase either on CD-ROM or as a part of a subscription to the STAT-USA/Internet® website http://www.stat-usa.gov/. To subscribe or to find out more information about these resources telephone 1-800-Stat-USA (782-8872). The NTDB is also available free of charge at over 1,400 federal depository libraries nationwide. A listing of all federal depository libraries can be found on the Internet at: http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/dpos/adpos003.html
